Golfers Gathered in Moorefield to Raise Money for Agriculture Education

Date: September 24, 2019

On September 19, 2019, dozens of golfers gathered at Valley View Golf Club in Moorefield, WV for West Virginia Farm Bureau’s 17th Annual Friends of Agriculture Golf Scramble. Proceeds from the golfers’ registration directly benefitted the West Virginia Farm Bureau Foundation, which focuses on sharing awareness and understanding of agriculture through education programs for all ages.

The Foundation strives to build relationships between farmers and consumers by illustrating the roles the environment, economy, and technology play in bringing consumers the products and foods we have come to expect from American farming. The Foundation also works to overcome misconceptions about agriculture and reconnects West Virginians with the men and women who grow and produce their food and fiber products.

A few ways proceeds will be used to continue Farm Bureau’s educational mission are: the Mobile Agriculture Education Science Lab, which travels to elementary schools with scientific lessons about agriculture; Summer Agriculture Institute for Teachers, a yearly seminar where teachers can tour farms and learn accurate agriculture lessons to share with their classes; and scholarships for students who wish to pursue careers in agriculture.

The golf outing began with a shotgun start at 1pm. An awards ceremony and BBQ dinner were held at the golf club immediately following the tournament. The first-place winner of the tournament was Pendleton Community Bank. Grant County Bank was second, and Pilgrim’s Pride came in third.
